In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My magazine follows similar conventions to that of Kerrange magazine but this is only done on the front cover page and the contents page but I veered away from the conventions for the double page spread. This is because I wanted to do it a way I thought looked good and not copy a real magazine. This was done by having four pictures and text wrap around it, instead of the Kerrang way by having a big picture taking up one page and then writing on the other side.
How does your product represent particular social groups?
My magazine is particularly for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19. The pictures in the magazine say different things about the attitudes. The picture of ADZ represents him being angry which coincides with the type of music he is involved with, which is electronica. Fake Fiction look more relaxed and care free, this also corresponds with the type of music they play, which is punk-rock.
What kind of media institution might distribute your product and why?
Maybe as a second magazine with Kerrang because my magazine is very similar to Kerrang and I have use it as a sort of template for my magazine.
Who would be the audience for your product?
The audience for my magazine will be teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19 who like punk-rock music.
How did you attract/address your audience?
I have attracted them by the fonts on the magazine, the range of pictures in the magazine, the colour scheme and the language used in the magazine. I have addressed my audience with ‘teenage language’. What I mean by this is I have not used childish words to undermine them or have I used over complicated words.
What have you learnt about technology from doing the coursework?
I have learnt many things in Photoshop and indesign, including; resizing pictures, changing the hue and saturation of the pictures, how to change the pixels per cm, how to use indesign effectively, how to get the right level of gradient and how to enhance the pictures so they look better.
How did preliminary task help you to do the full product?
It helped me to get used to using Photoshop, using the crop tool successfully and generally getting used to the program so I was prepared to do the fully coursework. With the preliminary task it helped me find out how to use different things on Photoshop and enhance my pictures properly.
Comments
I believe I have done this coursework task very well, I spent a lot of time on it trying to get it as perfect as I could. I had difficulties with the front cover picture because the resolution would not stay at 300pix/cm. But I got round this problem and finished the task with sufficient ease. I like my coursework because I based it on Kerrang and that is my style of music which I love. I asked my target market if they liked it as well and they said yes and they particularly liked the theme of the magazine and the pictures in it.
